Energy Efficiency Jobs

An enhanced public awareness of energy efficiency and smart energy use, as well as some of the green energy alternatives that are at the forefront of replacing fossil fuel dependence, has naturally led to an increase in the number of employment opportunities for energy efficiency specialists. Such positions range fairly widely, from energy audit jobs to positions for inspectors, builders, engineers and many others. Green energy and energy efficiency jobs are also available with a variety of government agencies and private companies. Green building companies, any private company seeking to reduce energy costs, energy production and power companies and the U.S. Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Agency are just a small sample of the environmental employers seeking energy efficiency specialists. And though energy needs vary around the country based on population and weather patterns, there is a general need for energy efficiency experts nationwide, from Houston environmental jobs, where a specialist may assist with efficient geothermal systems and air conditioning for homes and buildings, to positions in colder states where heating fuel is at a premium. Green energy technologies, including building technologies, geothermal energy, hydrogen and fuel cell technology, solar energy, wind and hydropower, are all areas of specialty within the overall energy efficiency field, and lend themselves to environmental jobs for engineers, scientists, associates and others. Especially relevant in the field and study of energy efficiency is Energy Star, a government-backed program for increasing energy efficiency. Energy Star identifies appliances and building technologies that meet certain standards of energy efficiency and supplies those that meet those requirements with the Energy Star logo. At the homeowner and individual level, simple efforts like installing insulation, using compact fluorescent light bulbs, using skylights to produce natural light and a variety of other efforts are being espoused by energy efficiency and energy audit companies that specialize in creating more energy efficient homes for both new and existing construction.
