The environmental technician will work closely with engineers in the development of instrumentation and methods to prevent, control or mitigate environmental hazards and closely related positions include
environmental engineer jobs and positions in sub-specialties such as wastewater management and pollution mitigation. Environmental technicians, when operating as consultants or in capacity in which services are provided to a third party are often responsible for conducting environmental site assessments (ESAs) for real estate purchases, industrial hygiene consulting, groundwater and wastewater assessments and monitoring, stack testing for air emissions compliance, soil and surface water monitoring, underground storage tank (UST) evaluation, permit writing and a host of other tasks. Technicians also work in a variety of atmospheres and in sub-sectors of the industry. Los Angeles, California, or work with property owners to reduce soil erosion among east coast resort communities - an indication that the environmental technician is varied and generally available throughout the nation, making it an attractive position for those interested in the industry.
